A communicative validation study on an English listening test in Korea

Abstract This study presents the validation process of a listening test based on communicative language proposed by Bachman (Fundamental considerations in testing, 1990). It was administered to third-grade high school students sixteen Korean Provincial Offices Education for Curriculum and Evaluation September 2012 assess their ability at end learning compare it with standard CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test). The research questions were following. First, what extent does measure comprehension construct? Second, sub-skills measure? Third, ability? To answer these three questions, designed examine test’s construct validity using classical theory (CTT). Then, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) confirmatory (CFA) applied find model that would fit score 400 examinees explain correlation between six divisible English twenty items. R-program is used as tool analyze above data. results show this not discriminatory, purpose summative assessment level into different groups. With acceptable measurement construct, concludes have clear division but, other hand, sufficiently measures ability.
